EPA v. NASA GSFC WALLOPS FLIGHT FACILITY
Case summary
On August 26, EPA signed a ROD for the Skeet Range Munitions Response Site Operable Unit 8 (OU-8) for soil. The selected remedy for OU8 is excavation and offsite disposal of contaminated soil and some limited areas which may be considered as sediment. There are no elevated risks associated with groundwater or surface water. The remedy will be protective of human health and the environment by preventing exposure to lead, lead shot and PAHs in soils and sediments. Five-year reviews will not be required at the OU8 site since there will be no hazardous substances remaining on site above levels that permit unlimited use and unrestricted exposure. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality concurred with the decision. This OU is not located in an area of environmental justice concern.
