Case summary

On July 2, 2003, a CAFO was filed resolving violations of the Asbestos Hazards Emregency Response Act ( AHERA ) under the Toxic Substances Control Act ( TSCA ). The Christopher Dcok Mennonite High School, located in Lansdale, PA failed to conduct 3 year re-inspections, perform periodic surveillance, maintain records and annually notify in writing, parents teachers, and employees organizations of the availability of the management plan. The Christopher Dock Mennonite High School contains approximately 23, 020 square feet of asbestos-containing floor tile, 420 square feet of floor sheeting and 37 linear feet of thermal system insulation throughout Christopher Dock Mennonite High School. Approximately 425 student attended Christopher Dock Mennonite High School and employs about 43 people. Management plans are used to note the location and condition of asbestos-containing materials (ACM) through-out the school. It is the responsbility of the designated person to ensure that the management plan is maintained and updated as required by AHERA. A management plan helps prevent exposure of the asbestos by ensuring that any maintenance or other routine school activities will not result in the disturbance of aCM. In addition, whenever ACM needs to be distributed, only accredited persons are used by the school. Annaul notification on the availability of the management plan, allows parents, teachers, and employee organizations the opportunity for reviewing all information regarding ACM in the school. Christopher Dock Mennonite High School has sepnt $5,650.00 to comply with AHERA regulations
