Case summary

On July 10th, 2026, the EPA concurred on an Action Memorandum for the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown National Priorities List (NPL) Site in Yorktown, Virginia. The Memo is for a vapor intrusion mitigation system (VIMS) to be installed in two buildings at Site 31 (EPA OU 22) on an expedited schedule to support required mission use. The VIMS system will remove the vapor intrusion pathway resulting from the volatilization of site-related organic chemicals, primarily trichloroethene (TCE), present in shallow soil and groundwater at Site 31 because of historical releases. Once installed, regular monitoring and maintenance will be completed for each VIMS to maintain VIMS components and document continued effectiveness of the systems to address VI and ensure protection of human health.
