Case summary

On February 22, 2017, Region 2 issued an administrative compliance order and information request to the Respondent with regard to the Manati-Barceloneta Sanitary Sewer Trunk and Wastewater Collection System / Barceloneta Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, for violations of CWA Sections 301 and 402 and the applicable NPDES regulations. This case involves sanitary sewer overflows from this trunk sewer and wastewater collection system into waters of the United States. The permittee is required, among other things, to cease and desist the discharge of pollutants (i.e., sewage) into waters of the United States, to provide a schedule for the replacement of part of the sanitary trunk sewer that collapsed, to clean overflowed sewage from the wastewater collection system, to inspect using a closed caption television (CCTV) survey the remaining of the sanitary trunk sewer until reaching the Barceloneta Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant, and to provide status reports to EPA.
