Case summary

Under this Settlement Agreement a removal action is to be performed by the Respondents at the Barrio Vietnam Superfund Site, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. The Agreement was entered into following the discovery of numerous drums of cosmetic and/or commercial cleaning waste. Sampling conducted of drums indicated RCRA hazard characteristics of ignitability or corrosivity. Under the Agreement, Respondents will perform a removal action focused on: 1) stabilization of all containers showing signs of deterioration or posing a threat of spill or release; 2) characterization, removal and proper disposal of all drums, containers and contents; and 3) characterization, removal and proper disposal of material that has spilled or leaked from the containers and associated contaminated soil. Respondents commenced 24-hour site security prior to the execution of the Agreement. Respondents will also reimburse EPA for past costs and the costs of overseeing the work.
