Case summary

The Site is approximately 72 acres in size and contains an unlined, uncapped, former waste disposal area that accepted commercial, industrial and municipal waste between approximately 1948 and 1979. Since the 1970's, approximately 200 homes were built on the Site, many of which are on and around the landfill trash. On July 22,1999, the Site was placed on the National Priorities List. A limited removal action was performed by EPA between 1999 and 2001 to address high levels of lead in soils at three residential parcels. The RI/FS for the Site is being conducted in two operable units. Operable Unit 1 will address contamination in the groundwater at the Site and is being performed by EPA. Operable Unit 2, which is the subject of the Order, calls for the Respondents to investigate the nature and extent of soil contamination at the Site, evaluate appropriate cleanup alternatives, and to reimburse EPA for the costs of overseeing the work.
