On October 26, 2026, EPA Region 1 filed a signed a Consent Agreement and Final Order ( CAFO ) between Reddy Ice LLC ( Reddy Ice ) and EPA to resolve penalties for alleged violations of CAA 112(r) at the company's ice manufacturing and distribution facility in Sanford, Maine. The facility uses approximately 8,000 lbs. of ammonia its refrigeration system. The CAFO alleges that Reddy Ice violated the CAA's General Duty Clause requirements to design and maintain a safe facility taking such steps as are necessary to prevent releases and to minimize the consequences of a release should one occur. This settlement requires the payment of a civil penalty of $169,000 and certification of compliance. This is a nondelegated program. EPA will notify the state of the action.
