On June 1, 2026, Region 1 filed an expedited settlement agreement resolving violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ( RCRA ) alleged against Northland Environmental, LLC ( Northland ), a hazardous waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility located in Providence, Rhode Island. Northland is owned by Clean Earth, Inc. Specifically, EPA alleged that Northland violated its RCRA permit by failing to make corrections to 16 e-manifests within the 30-day required time frame. These correction requests had been made by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection ( DEP ). Northland will pay a penalty of $20,000 and has corrected the alleged violations. Maine DEP is supportive of this action. This case was a joint effort between Region 1 and OECA.
