On April 27, 2023 EPA-Region 1 filed an Expedited Settlement Agreement (Agreement) with Veolia North America, LLC ( Veolia ), resolving Clean Water Act violations. On October 6, 2022, while inspecting the Taunton Wastewater Treatment Plant, in Taunton, Massachusetts, EPA observed that construction activity was occurring across the 7.5-acre facility without authorization under the federal General Construction Permit (CGP). As a result of the inspection, the company obtained CGP coverage. Pursuant to the Agreement, Veolia will pay a $12,000 penalty. EPA implements the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program in Massachusetts. The case team consulted with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on this matter.
