Case summary
On March 14, 2021 the Region entered into an administrative order on consent (AOC) with the Town of Hampton, New Hampshire to provide a schedule for it to meet its Total Copper limit in its NPDES permit. The AOC requires the Town to conduct a pilot study, testing potential solutions of process changes and/or chemical additions for copper removal. The study will be completed by December 31, 2022. By March 31, 2023, the Town will submit a report indicating the actions it will take to further reduce Total Copper discharges and an implementation schedule to ensure consistent compliance with the Total Copper limit. The Town is required to implement the recommendations set forth in the Report. The Region worked in close coordination with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services in this matter.
