On September 21, 2021, Region 1 entered into an Expedited Settlement Agreement with the Norbert E. Mitchell Co., Inc. (Mitchell Co.) located in Danbury, Connecticut resolving violations of Section 311(b)(3) of the Clean Water Act. On April 26, 2021, a home heating oil delivery truck owned by the Mitchell Co. overturned in New Fairfield, Connecticut and spilled approximately 1,000 gallons of heating oil. Approximately 200 gallons reached Short Woods Brook which flows into Ball Pond Brook. The company responded promptly to the spill and took over cleanup responsibilities. The spill did not have an impact on any environmental justice areas.
