EPA v. SAVE THAT STUFF

Case summary

On August 31, 2021, the Region entered into an Expedited Settlement Agreement with Save That Stuff, Inc. (STS), located in Charlestown, Mass. for discharging stormwater without permit authorization under the Clean Water Act. STS operates a recycling facility for pre-sorted materials. EPA inspected the facility on January 23, 2020 and found that STS was discharging stormwater from outdoor stockpiling areas via underground sewer infrastructure without authorization under either an individual NPDES permit nor the NPDES Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP). The company obtained MSGP coverage to address the violations. Respondent has agreed to a $7,500 penalty consistent with the Expedited Settlement Agreement Pilot for Industrial Stormwater Non-Filers Under the Clean Water Act (Sept. 30, 2019).
