EPA v. NORTHPORT VILLAGE CORP

Case summary

On June 10, 2019, EPA entered into an administrative order on consent (Order) with the Northport Village Corporation (NVC) of Northport, Maine to address exceedances of bacteria limits in its NPDES permit. NVC was issued a new NPDES permit on March 14, 2019. The permit contained new requirements to conduct disinfection year-round for fecal coliform and included enterococci limits for the first time. Currently NVC is unable to meet these limits; however, under the terms of the Order it will upgrade its POTW so that it can meet these limits by early 2021. The Order also establishes interim effluent limits and monitoring requirements.
