Case summary
On May 25, 2018, Region 1 issued a CAA Notice of Violation (NOV) to Connecticut Scrap, LLC regarding its metal shredding and recycling operations in Unacsville, CT and its various metal recycling operations located in CT and RI. At these facilities, Connecticut Scrap shreds and recycles materials such as motor vehicles, small appliances and room air conditioners. The NOV alleges that Connecticut Scrap violated the NESHAP for Stationary Reciprocating Internal Engines (40 CFR Part 63, Subpart ZZZZ) by failing to conduct initial performance tests and submitting compliance reports. The NOV also alleges that the company violated regulations for the handling of ozone depleting substances (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) by failing to properly recover refrigerant or to verify that refrigerant has been recovered from materials containing refrigerant.
