Case summary
School Bus Idling [Docket No. CAA-01-2017-0072] On December 8, 2017, Region 1 issued a Consent Agreement and Final Order agreed to by the Region and Coppola Bus Inc. of Haverhill, Massachusetts regarding failure to comply with federally-enforceable motor vehicle idling limits contained in the Massachusetts state implementation plan. In February and March 2017, an EPA inspector observed twenty-nine instances of excessive idling of Coppola school buses. After the Region notified Coppola of the violations, the parties reached settlement on an $18,000 penalty for the alleged violations. The Massachusetts DEP is aware of the violations and supports the Region's anti-idling enforcement program.
