Region 1 has referred to the Department of Justice a request for ex parte application for administrative warrant on behalf of EPA to authorize access to a 13.8-acre parcel of property within the Microfab, Inc. (Former) Superfund Site in Amesbury, MA (Site). The Property's owner of record is Microfab, Inc., a company that had been engaged in the manufacture of printed circuit boards, electroplating, and other metal finishing operations. Microfab declared bankruptcy in the 1980s and has been dissolved. The property has been abandoned, inactive, and unoccupied for many years and EPA has been unable to locate anyone willing or able to grant access to it. Region 1 seeks access to the property to investigate the nature and extent of contamination, specifically, to perform an RI/FS and a removal site evaluation. On August 15, 2018, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts signed the Warrant pursuant to CERCLA 104(e).
