EPA v. TRADEBE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES LLC
Case summary
2/1/19 This was a federal enforcement action brought by EPA and DOJ against Tradebe Treatment and Recycling Northeast, LLC, a subsidiary of Trabebe Environmental Services LLC, for alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ( RCRA ) and the Clean Air Act ( CAA ) at two waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities operated by Tradebe in Meriden and Bridgeport, Connecticut. Both facilities allegedly violated RCRA air emissions standards and CAA hazardous air pollutant standards; there were also alleged RCRA base program violations. EPA, DOJ and Tradebe reached a settlement in the action with a judicial consent decree that was lodged on December 12, 2018 and was entered as a final court order on February 1, 2019. Under the settlement consent decree, Tradebe?s facilities will maintain compliance with their RCRA permits and applicable hazardous waste laws, including RCRA air pollution control regulations; install new air emission control systems (thermal oxidizers) to permanently replace their current RCRA air emission control systems; and take other air control-related measures, at a total estimated cost of about $970,000. Tradebe will also maintain compliance with newly issued state air permits for the facilities. Tradebe also paid a $525,000 settlement penalty.
