EPA Region 1 and Safety-Kleen Systems, Inc. (Safety-Kleen) have signed and filed two administrative Consent Agreement and Final Orders (?CAFOs?) to settle CAA and RCRA administrative penalty actions regarding Safety-Kleen?s waste treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF) in Cranston, Rhode Island. Both the CAA and RCRA actions involved hazardous air pollutant emissions from the facility?s air emission control system that were not enforceable by state air and waste authorities. Under the settlements, Safety-Kleen agreed to fully comply with applicable CAA and RCRA requirements and pay a CAA settlement penalty of $369,517, and a RCRA settlement penalty of $178,070. The CAFOs were filed and became effective on March 28, 2017.
