Case summary

On April 25, 2016, the Regional Judicial Officer signed off on an expedited settlement agreement with Santa Fuel, Inc. of Bridgeport, Connecticut resolving violations of Section 311(b)(3) of the Clean Water Act. On October 19, 2015, a Santa Fuel, Inc. tanker truck driver overfilled a tank at Exchange Place Tower located in Waterbury, Connecticut. As a result of this overfilling, approximately 1,500 gallons of fuel oil spilled from the tank. Approximately 190 gallons of fuel oil entered the Naugatuck River via the City of Waterbury sewer system and an underground culvert. Santa Fuel, Inc. responded promptly to the spill and undertook cleanup responsibilities.
