On February 20, 2015, EPA referred a request to the Department of Justice to have proof of claim filed concerning Reichhold, Inc. et al ( Reichhold ) in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding. Reichhold is a potentially responsible party at Operable Unit Two of the Peterson/Puritan Superfund Site ( Site ) located in Cumberland, Rhode Island. EPA referred the proof of claim to DOJ to resolve claims regarding Reichhold's liability at the Site. Region 1 sent special notice letters on January 27, 2016 to over 104 potentially responsible parties to begin remedial design and remedial action negotiations for the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund Site in Cumberland and Lincoln, Rhode Island. The Record of Decision for the Peterson/Puritan, Inc. Superfund Site ? Operable Unit 2 (OU2) was issued on September 8, 2015. The Region expects to receive a good faith offer from the PRPs to perform the site cleanup.
