EPA v. REGO REALTY CORPORATION ET AL
Final Order With Penalty
Case summary
Complaint filed in September 2014 against Rego Realty Corporation and six associated property owning companies and one individual, for failures to comply with Disclosure Rule standards at nineteen target housing units within sixteen rental properties in Hartford, Connecticut. All of the properties are located in areas that score high for environmental justice indices. The settlement resolves claims that Rego and the property owners failed to provide lessees with lead hazard pamphlets, failed to include lead warning statements, failed to identify either the presence or absence of lead hazards, failed to provide records or notice about lack of records concerning lead hazards and/or failed to sign/date certifications required under the Disclosure Rule. The Settling Parties will pay a $48,000 penalty and provide documentation of their compliance with both the Disclosure Rule and the Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule. Overall, the Settling Parties provide about 600 rental units in target housing and the Settling Parties? increased compliance will yield significant public health protections.
