Case summary

Region 1 issued a Unilateral Administrative Order to Emhart Industries, Inc. and Black & Decker, Inc. (both subsidiaries of Stanley Black & Decker) to perform the $104 million cleanup remedy at the Centredale Manor Site, including performance of the remedial design, remedial action and operation and maintenance selected in the September 2012 Record of Decision. The UAO was issed on June 10, 2014, with an effective date of June 30, 2014. Emhart and Black & Decker are successors to the chemical company that previously operated at the Site. The Site, which is located adjacent to the Woonasquatucket River in North Providence, RI, is contaminated with dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls and other hazardous substances in soil, sediment, groundwater and surface water.
