Case summary
DOJ filed a complaint on November 29, 2011 under Section 107 of CERCLA against ConAgra Grocery Products Company, LLC seeking recovery of over $5 million in costs that EPA incurred while conducting a removal action at the A. C. Lawrence Superfund Site in Paris, Maine. ConAgra is the successor to liabilities that arose from ownership and operation of the facility that was the subject of the removal action. This successor liability case is based upon our evaluation of a significant number of very complex corporate transactions to trace the liability to ConAgra. The Consent Decree with ConAgra was entered. ConAgra will pay $5.7 million in past cost for the actions at the site.
