Case summary

On February 12, 2007, approximately 1,700 gallons of fuel oil of was discharged from the boiler, and made its way to the Connecticut River at the Riverside Industrial Center. The spill originated from a filter drain valve on the boiler, spilled on the floor and made its way to an old abandoned boiler blow down pit to a storm drain manhole in the warehouse. Once in the storm drain line it traveled 310 feet to a manhole in another part of the building and then traveled another 230 feet to the Connecticut River. There were no reports of environmental harm as a result of the discharge.
