EPA v. WASTE MANAGEMENT

Final Order With Penalty

Case summary

Waste Management of Massachusetts, Inc. has paid an administrative penalty of $27,200 for Clean Air Act violations. Waste Management violated federally-enforceable motor vehicle idling limits contained in the Massachusetts state implementation plan. The applicable regulation establishes requirements for all motor vehicles operating in Massachusetts, and, with very few exceptions, limits idling to no more than five minutes. Waste Management has retrained its drivers, and will supervise morning truck operations at all its depots in Massachusetts to ensure that its drivers comply with the five-minute idling limit.
