Twentieth Amendment , Section 5:
Sections 1 and 2 shall take effect on the 15th day of October following the ratification of this article.
Because the Twentieth Amendment was ratified on January 23, 1933, Sections 1 and 2 of the Twentieth Amendment [1](https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution-conan/amendment-20/effective-date-of-sections-1-and-2-of-twentieth-amendment#fn1amd20 " See ; . ") became effective on October 15, 1933.
