<p>Syllabus.</p> <p>In a letter written some years before bis death a father acknowledged receipt of certain property and funds which his father-in-law had donated to his wife, referring in the letter to an entry in a book kept by the father-in-law in which a memorandum of the donation was made. The notarial act of donation itself having been destroyed by fire, in the effort to prove its contents both the letter of the father and the entry in the book of the father-in-law, now deceased, are admissible in evidence, the identity of the book and proof of handwriting being first established.</p>
