11/22/2023 In a case where the trial court convicted a defendant of malicious wounding and ordered him to pay restitution to the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (\DMAS\) for a small portion of the victim's medical bills that DMAS had paid on the victim's behalf, the judgment of the Court of Appeals holding that the trial court had erred as a matter of law in doing so is reversed. Final judgment is entered on behalf of the Commonwealth on this appeal.
