(HS&B:22) is the sixth in a series of longitudinal studies at the high
school level conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics
(NCES), within the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) of the U.S.
Department of Education. HS&B:22 is following a nationally
representative sample of ninth grade students from when they started
high school in the 2022-23 school year. The base-year data collection
was conducted in the 2022-23 school year with ninth grade students,
with a high school transcript collection planned for 2027. The original
study design included a first follow-up data collection when the modal
sample would have been in 12th grade. A field test was completed, but
not the full-scale data collection. This request is to obtain clearance
to conduct the high school transcript collection for

of students that may not have finished at their base-year high school.

submission presents information on the basic design of the HS&B:22 High

materials that will be used for school district, school, student, and
