Abstract
This Public Land Order (PLO) extends the duration of the withdrawal established by the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1997 and extended by PLO No. 7783 for an additional 15-year period. The withdrawal would otherwise expire on September 22, 2026. The Act withdrew approximately 3,133 acres of public lands and approximately 11,415 acres of federally owned minerals at the Fort Carson Military Reservation, and approximately 2,517 acres of public lands and approximately 130,139 acres of federally owned minerals at the Army's Pi[ntilde]on Canyon Maneuver Site. This extension is necessary to allow and protect the Army's exclusive use of the area for military maneuvering, training and weapons firing, and other defense- related purposes consistent with those specified in the Act.

SUMMARY: This Public Land Order (PLO) extends the duration of the
withdrawal established by the National Defense Authorization Act for
Fiscal Year 1997 and extended by PLO No. 7783 for an additional 15-year
period. The withdrawal would otherwise expire on September 22, 2026.
The Act withdrew approximately 3,133 acres of public lands and
approximately 11,415 acres of federally owned minerals at the Fort
Carson Military Reservation, and approximately 2,517 acres of public
lands and approximately 130,139 acres of federally owned minerals at
the Army's Pi[ntilde]on Canyon Maneuver Site. This extension is
necessary to allow and protect the Army's exclusive use of the area for
military maneuvering, training and weapons firing, and other defense-
related purposes consistent with those specified in the Act.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The purpose for which Congress withdrew and
reserved these lands in 1996 requires this extension for military
maneuvering, training and weapons firing and for other defense related
purposes. The Army informed the Secretary of the Interior that
extension of PLO No. 7783 for an additional 15 years is necessary to
continue protecting the lands for military readiness purposes as
described in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year
1997 (Pub. L. 104-201).
Order
By virtue of the authority vested in the Secretary of the Interior
by section 204 of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act of 1976,
43 U.S.C. 1714, it is ordered as follows:
1. Subject to valid existing rights, the withdrawal established by
subtitle A of Title XXIX of the National Defense Authorization Act for
Fiscal Year 1997 (Pub. L. 104-201, Sept. 23, 1996) and extended by PLO
No. 7783 (76 FR 59157 (2011)), is hereby extended for an additional 15-
year period. Public Law 104-201 withdrew approximately 3,133 acres of
public lands and 11,415 acres of federally owned minerals at the Fort
Carson Military Reservation, and 2,517 acres of public lands and
approximately 130,139 acres of federally owned minerals from all forms
of appropriation under the public land laws, including the mining laws,
mineral and geothermal leasing laws, and mineral materials disposal
laws, and reserved the lands for use by the Army for military
maneuvering, training and weapons firing, and other consistent defense-
related purposes as specified in Subtitle A of the Public Law 104-201.
