Abstract
On June 3, 2025, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) published in the Federal Register proposal to amend the Federal Government personnel vetting adjudicative processes for determining suitability and taking suitability actions. The proposed rule invited the public to submit written comments beginning on the proposed rule publication date and ending on Thursday, July 3, 2025. In response to requests for an extension of the comment period, OPM is extending the comment period to Friday, July 18, 2025.

AGENCY: Office of Personnel Management.
ACTION: Proposed rule; extension of comment period.

SUMMARY: On June 3, 2025, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)
published in the Federal Register proposal to amend the Federal
Government personnel vetting adjudicative processes for determining
suitability and taking suitability actions. The proposed rule invited
the public to submit written comments beginning on the proposed rule
publication date and ending on Thursday, July 3, 2025. In response to
requests for an extension of the comment period, OPM is extending the
comment period to Friday, July 18, 2025.
DATES: The public comment period for this action, published on June 3,
2025 (90 FR 23467), is extended. Comments must be received no later
than July 18, 2025.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: On June 3, 2025, the Office of Personnel
Management (OPM) published in the Federal Register a notice of proposed
rulemaking titled ``Suitability and Fitness'' (see 90 FR 23467). The
comment period on this proposed rule was originally scheduled to close
July 3, 2025. OPM has received requests for additional time to review
and comment on this proposed rule. OPM will be extending the comment
period by 15 days. The public comment period will now end on July 18,
2025. Information about submitting comments is in the ADDRESSES section
of this notice.
