Abstract of Information Available
Based on the information available, associated funerary objects
have been reasonably identified. The five associated funerary objects
are four lots of shell beads and one lot of glass beads. These were
removed likely in the early to mid-20th century from three sites in
Sacramento County, CA: Johnson Mound, Hollister Mound, and Calhoun
Mound. Thomas Gilcrease, founder of Gilcrease Museum, likely purchased
these in the 1950s.
Cultural Affiliation
Based on the information available and the results of consultation,
cultural affiliation is clearly identified by the information available
about the associated funerary objects described in this notice.
Determinations
The Gilcrease Museum has determined that:
<bullet> The five objects described in this notice are reasonably
believed to have been placed intentionally with or near individual
human remains at the time of death or later as part of the death rite
or ceremony.
<bullet> There is a reasonable connection between the associated
funerary objects described in this notice and the Ione Band of Miwok
Indians of California and the Wilton Rancheria, California.

organization not identified in this notice who shows, by a

requestor may occur on or after December 12, 2024. If competing
requests for repatriation are received, the Gilcrease Museum must
determine the most appropriate requestor prior to repatriation.
