Abstract
The Secretary of the Interior (Secretary) has directed the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) to develop post-2026 Colorado River reservoir operational guidelines and strategies for Lake Powell and Lake Mead (referred to as "post-2026 operations"). Several important reservoir and water management decisional documents and agreements that govern operation of Colorado River facilities and management of Colorado River water are currently scheduled to expire at the end of 2026. Through this Federal Register notice, Reclamation is formally initiating the process to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the development of post-2026 operations.
