SUMMARY: We are advising the public that we are extending the comment
period on a notice of availability of a draft environmental impact
statement and draft plant pest risk assessment evaluating the potential
environmental impacts and plant pest risk that may result from the
approval of a petition for nonregulated status for blight-tolerant
Darling 58 American chestnut (Castanea dentata) from the State
University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
This action will allow interested persons additional time to prepare
and submit comments.
DATES: The comment period for the notice published on November 10, 2022
(87 FR 67861-67862) is extended. We will consider all comments that we
receive on or before January 26, 2023.

Background
On November 10, 2022, we published in the Federal Register (87 FR
67861-67862), Docket No. APHIS-2020-0030) a notice of availability of a
draft environmental impact statement and draft plant pest risk
assessment \1\ evaluating the potential environmental impacts and plant
pest risk that may result from the approval of a petition for
nonregulated status for blight-tolerant Darling 58 American chestnut
(Castanea dentata) from the State University of New York College of
Environmental Science and Forestry.
