Agency Information Collection Activities; Submission to the
Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for Review and Approval; Comment
Request; National Security and Critical Technology Assessments of the
U.S. Industrial Base
The Department of Commerce will submit the following information
collection request to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) for
review and clearance in accordance with the Paperwork Reduction Act of
1995, on or after the date of publication of this notice. We invite the
general public and other Federal agencies to comment on proposed, and
continuing information collections, which helps us assess the impact of
our information collection requirements and minimize the public's
reporting burden. Public comments were previously requested via the
Federal Register on April 4, 2022, during a 60-day comment period. This
notice allows for an additional 30 days for public comments.
Agency: Bureau of Industry and Security, Commerce.
Title: National Security and Critical Technology Assessments of the
U.S. Industrial Base.
OMB Control Number: 0694-0119.
Form Number(s): None.
Type of Request: Regular submission, revision, and extension of a
current information collection.
Number of Respondents: 28,000.
Average Hours per Response: 8 to 14 hours.
Burden Hours: 308,000.
Needs and Uses: The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) conducts
surveys and assessments of critical U.S. industrial sectors and
technologies. Undertaken at the request of various policy, research and
development (R&D), and program and planning organizations within the
Department of Defense and the Armed Services, Department of Homeland
Security (DHS), NASA and other agencies, BIS research, data collection
and analysis provide needed information to benchmark industry
performance and raise awareness of diminishing manufacturing
capabilities.
Affected Public: Business or other for-profit organizations.
Frequency: On Occasion.
Respondent's Obligation: Mandatory.
Legal Authority: Section 705 of the Defense Production Act of 1950,
as amended, Executive Orders 12656 and 13603.
